Where Have I Been?

My apologies to all my "regular readers" (all 5 of you) for having kept you out of the loop that is my life lately. Things have actually been pretty busy.

Last Thursday, I took part in Roadtrip Part Deux. This time, I went down to Toronto to see a play at York University being directed by the wonderful Michele Lonsdale-Smith (whose class I cannot wait to take in December!). It's ironic that I go all the way down to Toronto to see Theatre when there is so much going on here, but I had my reasons. First of all, I wanted to see something that Michele had done. Second of all, I am considering doing my Master's at York, so it was a great opportunity to get a feel for the program. Unfortunately, while the York Campus is pretty nice, the neighbourhood did not inspire confidence. I'm really going to have to think long and hard before I decide if this is something for me.
I was back home at around 6am on Friday morning, slept for a few hours and then sent in some applications for positions at the U of O. Man, do I hate write writting cover letters! I wish I could tell the truth in them. Something along the lines of:

Dear Employer,
I want to work for you because I need money. I don't really care all that much for the job itself, but trust me, I'll be great at it as long as you keep paying me.
So when can I expect an interview?
Cheers!
Nancy

I wonder how many job offers I would get with that one?

Friday night I saw the amazing Diva's concert put on by my dear friend Kris. While I would have immediately gotten on here to blog about how wonderful the show was and how you should definately go and see it, there was no point since they had already sold out both shows! Congratulations, Kris!

On Saturday and Sunday, I took a great workshop with Sharon Forrest, a casting director from Toronto. I can't believe more people don't take advantage of these things when they come up. I feel a lot more confident now about submitting myself (and having my agent submit me) for stuff in Toronto. That reminds me, I have a thank you note to send out.

Rehearsals have now started for Possible Worlds and I'm excited about the complexity of my character. More on that as it develops.

Finally, I would just like to let you all know that I GOT A JOB! You are looking at (or should I say reading about) the new Outreach Coordinator for the Magnetic North Theatre Festival. You have no idea how psyched I am about this position. The contacts I will make, the experience I will gain... it just seems so full of promise right now. Plus, they have no problem with me taking that week-long intensive with Michele in December and they are closed over the Christmas break (double bonus!)

I will be sure to update you all on the festival and my work there as soon as it develops. Possible starting date: Monday, November 20th.
