Another Season, Another Show

Hey folks, here is some info on the show I'm in. It opens tomorrow night and I would love to see you there!

New Ottawa Repertory Theatre presents Family Matters
written by Paul Dervis

In its first play of the season, New Ottawa Repertory Theatre, in co-operation with Saw Video, presents Paul Dervis’ FAMILY MATTERS, at Club Saw, October 24-28, October 31-November 4, 8:00 pm .

The actions of one person can affect family members over generations. Family Matters, in three connected episodes, shows us how the sins of the father are laid at the feet of all the members of his family over a 30-year period.

Paul Dervis is renowned for his ability to catch not only people’s words, but the unsaid thoughts behind them. Arthur Friedman (Boston Herald) said of Family Matters, “Dervis has a remarkable ear for dialogue.”; Dennis Armstrong ( Ottawa Sun) says “he has an ear that just doesn't hear dialogue but records and amplifies it in all it's humour, colour and power”;

Paul Dervis has been a professional playwright and director for 24 years. His plays have won accolades and awards: Family Matters was a hit at the Atlantic Fringe Festival, On Any Monday Night, was accorded Best Plays of 2000. He also wrote Pokey, At Water’s Edge, Last Disciple of Abraham, and Manhattan Je Vous Dis.

New Ottawa Repertory Theatre (NORT) is a theatre lab, whose goal is to explore new plays with actors who seek to develop their skills in a repertory environment. As one critic has said, “If there's one thing you can count on from the New Ottawa Repertory Theatre, it's that no one -- neither the characters nor the audience members watching -- will come out the same as when they went in.”

This is NORT’s seventh season of producing excellent drama and dark comedy – in our last season, we played to sell-out audiences, and appreciative notices: Race “…burns with real passion and conviction”, Ottawa Sun; “...is a relevant engaging production,” Ottawa Citizen. Last Disciple of Abraham “… very good performances,... held my attention”, Alvina Ruprecht, CBC.

FAMILY MATTERS runs October 24-28, October 31-November 4, 8:00 pm., at Club Saw, (Arts Court), 67 Nicholas Ave. Tickets $15 ($10, students) are available at the door. For further information or reservations, call 613-231-7562, or visit http://nort.ncf.ca.
