Montreal Audition or One Wrong Turn and You End Up in Longueuil
I was all set this morning to head out to Montreal. My friend Mercedes also had an audition and her boyfriend was driving us. Last night, after printing my resume, I ran out of paper.
"No matter," I thought. I was bringing my laptop, so I was able to save the driving directions there. Unfortunately, when I got in the car, I realized that I had left my laptop unplugged last night and the battery was dead.
Damn. I'm now carrying a very expensive rock with me.
One phone call home later, I had the directions.
The great thing about either getting a ride or taking the bus to MTL for an audition is that you get plenty of time to learn your lines. Having a fellow actor friend along with me also meant that I could go over them with someone else.
We arrived in MTL about an hour and a half later (I don't want to know how fast he was driving) which was good since we missed one exit and somehow ended up in Longueuil. We made it back safely though and with plenty of time to spare.
For some reason, there doesn't seem to be any coffee shops or the like in Montreal. I needed to go the bathroom thanks to the coffee from the good people at Timmy Ho's and Mercedes needed to change her clothes. There was a port-a-potty near the casting office, but even I have more dignity then that. Mercedes decided to change in the car and I fixed up my makeup there too.
I chuckled. Getting ready in a car? Who says being an actor is glamorous?
I was happy with my audition. I was myself, had fun, and I could tell in shone through. For once I didn't worry about what I looked like (much). At the end, the casting director picked my resume back up from the pile and took the time to ask me plenty of questions. She was also happy with my audition and sincerely wished me all the best.
I don't know if I'll get the part, but I literally don't care (much). I had such a good time in that audition room that it almost doesn't matter.
Back in Ottawa, my agent informed me that I have a voice audition tomorrow in French.
I'm moving on. But I have a strong feeling that this year is my year.
And you know why? Because not only did I have an audition today and one scheduled for tomorrow, but I also FINALLY WON A TIM HORTONS COFFEE!
Yes, life is good.
