Memories, from the corners of my mind...
Where the heck has my memory gone? Were all my brain cells fried with all the drinking I did in first and second year (in which case, that would totally disprove the buffalo theory)? Is it because I drink too much coffee? Or am I just getting stupider with age? If that last one is true, than by the time I'm 30 I'll probably have forgotten how to get home.
Seriously though, I used to have a very good memory. In high school, I would remember entire chapters out of textbooks. I was always very good at that memory card game too. Granted I was playing against my grandmother, but still! I was good at it.
One of my friends is always impressed with how fast I can memorize a scene when it would be given to us, either in class or at an audition. Usually by the third try, second try if I'm having a good day, I would have the scene or the monologue memorized. I can also typically memorize pages and pages of text fairly quickly. Which is why I was so hard on myself last night when I wasn't completely off-book.
However, as soon as it's memorized, the moment I don't need that particular piece of information anymore, it's gone. Think I could reanact a scene from Crimes of the Heart for you? Think again. I have trouble remembering the monologue I used for my Criminal Genius audition and that was only a few weeks ago.
Sometimes I think my brain is kinda of like a computer where the hard drive is practically full and so I have to delete some files in order to fit in the new ones. Unfortunately, I don't really get to choose which files I delete. For some reason, I can remember the entire soundtrack to Rent, the names of every actor ever to appear on every variation of Star Trek (except for Enterprise, that was crap Scott Bakula!), and a variety of other pointless movie, television and popculture trivia, but not where I put my keys.
Have YOU seen my keys?
