So you want to be an actor?

Tommy Used to Work on the Dock...

... Union went on strike, he's down on his luck. It's tough. So tough.

As of yesterday, the Alliance of Canadian Cinema, Television and Radio Artists (ACTRA) is on strike (although I hate the Citizen title because I think it has more to do with fair wages than just the web broadcasts).

So what does that mean for me, the non-union actor? Well, there will be no "scab" work for me, if that's what you were thinking. According to ACTRA By-Law #9.15:

Performers who are not members of the union, but who reasonably know that the union is on
strike, who nevertheless perform for struck engagers, or who in any way act to defeat the best interests of the union during a strike, will be excluded from membership in the union.

I'm pretty certain a post like this constitutes reasonable knowledge for anyone out there. So you can be certain that if I catch any of my "readers" trying to screw over the union, I will report you so fast. Because if I don't get any bonuses out of the union being on strike, you don't either. So nah!
