To Audition or Not to Audition
This Sunday, Ottawa Little Theatre will be holding auditions for George Bernard Shaw's Widower's House and I'm wondering if I should go audition.
I miss theatre, but most of all, I simply miss the joy of performing. I was really jealous of everyone who got to do a Fringe show.
So technically, the answer should be simple: I miss performing. Auditioning may give me a chance to perform. Ergo, I should go audition for the show.
However, a few problems arise.
First of all, the very selfish issue of money. I have a full-time job now that may require me to work evenings and weekends. Since this is a community theatre production, that's when rehearsals will most likely be held. Will I be able to balance both? Well, I always have been one to do too much all at once, so I guess the answer is yes.
Issue number two, still related to money. If my agent gets me an audition for a union gig and I got the part, would the show conflict with that? Possibly, but then again, I haven't gotten all that many auditions recently have I?
Finally, I also told myself I wouldn't do any more community theatre unless I knew and respected the people involved. You see, as much as I want to perform, I want to perform in a good show, or at least one that has the potential to be good. I don't know anyone who might be involved and I read the play, kinda boring. However, I might know people at the audition, and I have read plays that didn't speak to me when I read it but then turned out to be incredible shows (Under Milkwood for example).
sigh
Maybe I should just go audition. What do I have to lose?
