Can't say I'm surprised
And the email states:
"As you guys can tell by now the rest of the shoot has been canceled. Needless to say this is tremendously disappointing considering all the time and effort we put into the project."
Yes, it is very disappointing for the reasons stated above and then some.
This was my first lead role in a film and I was really looking forward to starting to build a demo reel. Now three months of work and endless, arduous weekends are down the tubes and I have nothing to show for it.

Yeah it's too bad it didn't work out better - the script sounded really good and I was looking forward to seeing the movie.
On the upside, at least it didn't get dragged out for any more months, it was already wildly over schedule. You can't ask people to give up all their weekends for the whole summer.
