It's time for a Revolution!!!

A Dance Dance Revolution! (Or DDR for those who are intimate)

Basically, you jump around on these four arrows while trying to follow the moves that appear on screen. Not only does this get progressively harder to do, it's also an incredible workout. After three games, I was starting to sweat quite profusely. I now see why people get addicted to this game and even show up wearing special track suits or sweats.

I wish I had pictures to show you.

From what I gather, there are a few different types of DDR dancers.

The Stomper - typically male, this person can be heard revolutionizing the place from accross the street.

The Hesitant Stepper - usually a beginner that can be identified by a lack of adequate footwear (ie. that girl in the stilletto heels), the Hesitant Stepper has never seen a video game console before in her life and giggles continuously with her ever present entourage at how cute it is that she can't get the moves right.

The Pro - a constant presence around DDR machines, pros are just so much better than you at this so you might as well pack it up and go home right now.

The Cool Guy or Gal - Whatever, it's just a game.

and of course, my category

The Arm Flapper - tell your friends to back away and your partner to be careful because they might get seriously injured in the process. Let's just say that if there were arrows for the arms, the Arm Flapper might feel right at home.

Feel free to add your other DDR dancer types in the comments section.

  • They have an arcade game in Japan (I think it's called Taiko Drum) which is a lot like DDR except instead of dancing, you drum. It is very fun. I have big blisters on my thumbs.
