Bad at updating
Ok, ok, I know I say this a lot, but it's been a while since I updated. I've just been super busy at work.
Anyway, after the first read through of that play, I wasn't too sure what I was getting myself into. You see it's a new play, an original work by a university student to be presented during Pride Week at the U of O, about 3 weeks away. But that's not what made me unsure. I mean sure the text was still pretty fresh and could use some condensing, but what bothered me where the administrative problems. Like how 2 or 3 cast members had suddenly dropped out due to time constraints. Then I find out that we weren't going to be doing a full production at all, we were going to do a staged reading.
I didn't want this production to be half-assed. I also definitely did not want to be associated to a half-assed project.
However, after my first real rehearsal, I felt better. You see, we weren't just doing a reading, we were doing a workshop. Workshoping a play means that we are actually editing the text and putting in our own vision of the character. Then when we read it in front of an audience, after the production we will take feedback and questions. The goal is to create a solid show that will be eventually presented in July.
I feel much better about that. Plus, the poster looks really cool. I'll try to upload it to my website if I have a chance (but no promises ;)). The director and I are also very much on the same wavelength when it comes to where we want my character to go, which is very reassuring.
The show is called True Colours by Guy Marsan and it is directed by Michael Soulard. It will be presented Feb. 6th, 7th and 11th at 8pm in the Alumni Auditorium of the University of Ottawa's University Centre.
