I'm Not a Stage Manager... Shhhh Don't Tell Kris
Ok, so I get a text msg this week (I'm all up on that new fangled technology) from Kris saying he needs a stage manager for this weekend's sure to be fantastic Modern Broadway Cabaret. Now, a few things ran through my mind at that moment:
SHIT! I haven't stage managed a show since University!
Fortunately, I do have some of the anal-pack-rack-hyper-organized skillz (with a 'z' cuz I'm cool like that), that come with being an SM, because I've kept both the prompt book from Tania's one act play AND the binder I had created for my SM assignment in tech class. I knew those would come in handy some day!
So I've been spending the better part of my day today going through those old binders, making photocopies of sheets I believe will be useful (on my handy-dandy printer/scanner/photocopier/fax combo), reading through old text books, and trying to remember what the heck Adam (the Possible World's SM) had in his kit (answer: everything but the kitchen sink).
To be fair, my job is easy right now. The rehearsal process is over and the cues will mostly take place at the beginning and at the end of songs. I basically just need to be there for tech and then I call the show.
Easy right?
I am knocking on so much wood right now.
- I would get to listen to fantastic Broadway showtunes at least three times!
- I would get involved with a theatre company that I have never worked with before.
- I would get familiar with the NAC Fourth Stage.
- All this even before he mentioned a small honorarium for my time (What? You're not asking me to volunteer? ... I'm not familiar with this concept.)

Um ... did you just type "anal-pack-rack"?
... I'm sorry, that's just too easy.
