Dream Interpretation

I had a dream last night

I was in a classroom, just like the ones we had in high school: square desk, hard plastic chairs, big blackboard at the front.

I didn’t recognize the teacher at the front. She was a woman with dark curly hair. I didn’t recognize any of the students either, although I know that I was supposed to know them. Their faces were blurry, as were the edges of the classroom. I couldn’t tell you how big it was. But once in a while, I would get an incredibly brief glimpse of a face, mostly people from my acting classes. The only clear person in the entire dream was an old boyfriend.

He was sitting at the front of the class; I was sitting towards the back.

There was a word on the board and it looked like gibberish. The teacher asked us what the word meant. I knew the answer, although I can’t remember what it was. Everyone was impressed when I answered correctly. That’s when I realized that another word had appeared and he had moved one seat closer to mine. I backed away. The teacher asked what this new word meant. Once again I answered correctly, once again people were impressed, and once again he moved in closer. I backed away. This happened one more time and I was running out of room to back away. I was starting to panic.

That’s when Darcy woke me up to tell me he was going to walk the dog.

The Interpretation:

School
To dream that you are in school signifies feelings of inadequacy and childhood insecurities that have never been resolved. It may relate to anxieties about performance and abilities. You may also be going through a "spiritual learning" experience. Alternatively, a dream that takes place in school may be a metaphor for the lessons that you are learning from your waking life.

Classroom
To dream that you are in a classroom, symbolizes that you may be learning an important life lesson.

Chalkboard
To see a chalkboard in your dream represents the classroom. There is a lesson to be learned from this dream. You may feel that you are being put to the test. Consider what is being written on the chalkboard.

Desk
To see or sit at your desk in your dream, suggests that you are evaluating and weighing your problems. It is indicative of self-exploration and discovery.

Teacher
To see your teacher (past or present) in your dream, suggests that you are seeking some advice, guidance, or knowledge. You are heading into a new path in life and ready to learn by example or from a past experience.

Question
To dream that someone is asking you a question, suggests that you have information or knowledge that needs to be shared.

Warmth
To feel warmth in your dream signifies contentment and satisfaction in your accomplishments. It also symbolizes hope and unconditional love.

Lover
To see a lover in your dream, symbolizes acceptance, self-worth, and acknowledgement of your true inner value. It may also indicate integration of masculine and feminine traits into yourself. You are feeling complete or whole.
To dream of an old or former lover, signifies unfinished/unresolved issues related to that specific relationship. Your current relationship may be awakening some of those same issues.

Backward
To dream that you are walking or moving backward signifies that what you are doing may be counter-productive. What you are seeking in life appears to be moving away from you. Thus you may be feeling a sense of failure or believe that you are unable to achieve your goals and aspirations. On the other hand, moving backward in your dream may symbolize that you should back off or retreat in a situation you may be facing in your waking life.

Panic
To dream that you are in a panic indicates a lack of control and power in your life. You may be feeling helpless in some situation or unable to make a clear decision.

Blurry
To have a blurry dream, indicates that there is something you are not confronting or refusing to see. It also represents secrets and confusion. Perhaps you think that someone is trying to keep something from you.

Ok, this Dream Interpretation stuff is really fun and interesting! If someone has an answer as to what the gibberish words are that I seem to know in my dream, I'm all ears. I also read somewhere once that you cannot read in your dreams because you dream with the left side of your brain and you read with the right side (or vice-versa).

Anyway, feel free to discuss!

  • I read a book on the subject once and I learned that dream analysis and interpretation is very difficult because a dream is a combination of so many things: thoughts, memories, worries, feelings, experiences - all unconscious and conscious. There are layers and layers behind the dream and without knowing you what you are going through now and what you went through growing up, it would be even harder for an outsider to interpret your dream than it would for you to. But you can probably only analyze a few layers because the unconscious you stays in the unconsciousness.

Did that make any sense at all? If not, sorry. I should stick to reading blogs and not commenting on them.

    Good luck. :P
