The Hardship of Not Having an Agent
Today I realized just how hard it can be to get ahead in the entertainment business without an agent. Last night during my last ACT class of the year, 3 or 4 people in class where there with sides for an audition this Friday. They had received these sides after their agent had submitted their resume and headshot to the casting director. You see, agents regularly receive the character breakdowns for movies, television or theatre in the area. This information is not made publicly available. Therefore, without an agent, I can't get submitted. Now there are ways around this, as I found out last night, but it involves alot of work. Since I found out about this audition from a reliable source, I was told that, without an agent, I could try contacting the casting director and the production company directly. So that's what I did. I sent a package through Express Post to the Montreal casting director so that she may get it tomorrow before she comes down on Friday. I also walked over to the production office with a package for the Director and the Executive Producer. Now all I can do is wait... and pray that someone will look at my stuff and give me a shot.
