The Rideau Street Ghetto

Seriously, when did Rideau St become such a ghetto? I mean just a few months ago there was a shooting there. You're constantly being annoyed by pan-handlers, there are armed security guards inside McDonald's (to keep the riff-raff out if the classical music stops working, I suppose), and there are tons of street kids who are loitering in their attempt to rebel against suburbia. It also looks really really dirty. In between the shinny golden arches and the perfume-lined shelves of Shoppers Drug Mart, you find cigarette butts, garbage and gum residue all over the place. I don't like walking in that area anymore, especially not at night.

While I'm on the topic of Rideau and it's centre, I'd just like to vent about one of my biggest pet peeves. There are approximately 6 to 8 doors (can't remember really) that lead in from one entrance of the Rideau Centre. Why, oh why then do people all line up and cram through only one. How lazy can you be? Just open the other friggin' doors!!!
