Busy Weekend (Part 1)

The weekend was off to a great start. On Saturday, I started and finished shooting on one of the many short films that saw it fit to cast me in there projects. This one was for an Algonquin student film. It was a lot of fun. Being students who are learning the ins-and-outs of filmaking, they were as technically organized as they could be. They also took really great care of us and had tons of fresh food for us to eat. That said, you could definately tell this was their first film.

After shooting one take on one of the first scenes that morning, their jaws were dropping to the floor telling me and the girl playing my roomate how good we were and how impressed they were with the quality of actors they got for the show.

Ok, I am a good actor. I know that. But having taken many classes and seen many performances from really great actors, I also know that I am not that jaw-droppingly good. Especially not the first thing in the morning when I'm still getting my bearings on the scene (at least I managed to get my warm-up done before my ride came to pick me up). It was so good they didn't need a second take (???). I remember going to the director as they started turning the camera around for another angle and asking her if she had any re-direct for me. The poor girl had this absolutely frightened deer-in-the-headlights look about her. She just stared at me blankly before slowly raising her hand in a thumbs up gesture. I don't think she wanted to be the director on this shoot. Maybe they drew straws and she got the short one?

I realized then and there that I would not be getting any help as an actor on how to improve myself, but that was alright with me. I was just there to have some fun and get a little bit of experience infront of a camera.

The main reason I decided to audition for a student film was because I knew that since this was a school project, it would have to get done. They're suppose to have everything edited in two weeks and we should be getting a DVD around that time. I'm looking forward to actually having some sort of record of my work since so many other projects I've worked on have yet to get stuff out to me (Phil, I'm looking at you!)
